Thank you for the wonderful party tonight.  I enjoyed the conversation!  I've had a fun two years in Urakawa.  I will miss you all.  素晴らしいパーティーはありがとうございました！会話を楽しみました！浦河で楽しい２年間を過ごしました。皆さんに感謝したいと思います。

7/8 Topic: Last Class!

Hi, everyone!

Tomorrow is our last class before summer vacation, so there is no specific topic.  We can talk about anything, including our plans for the summer and future.  Also, we will play some games if we have time.

When the new ALT, Katelyn, comes to Urakawa on July 29, I will talk to her about English Conversation Class and write a post on here to let you know when the next class will be.  I think the next class will be either August 12 or August 19, but it hasn't been decided yet.  I will let you know soon, so please be patient.  Also, I will ask Katelyn if she wants to continue this blog.  If she does, I will notify everyone here.

Reminder: The English Conversation Class farewell party is this Saturday, July 11, at 6:00 PM at Sakazukiya.  I have made a reservation for 10 people.  We will be eating courses, so please bring 3,500 Yen for your meal.  You may bring the money tomorrow to class and give it to me, or you may bring it on Saturday to the party.  Either is OK.  If you have any questions, please ask me.

皆さん、こんにちは！

明日は夏休みの前のラストクラスなので、特定なトピックはありません。夏や将来の予定など、何でも話しても良いです。時間があればゲームもします。

７月２９日に新しいALTのKatelynさんが浦河町に着くはずなので、そのときに英会話クラスについてKatelynさんと相談するつもりです。次の英会話クラスが決まり次第、いつするかこのブログでお知らせします。次のクラスは８月１２日か１９日かもしれないと思っていますが、まだ決まっていません。もうすぐお知らせしますので、お待ちください。また、Katelynさんはこのブログを続けたいかどうか聞いてみます。続く場合は、こちらでお知らせします。

お知らせ：英会話クラスのお別れ会は、さかずき屋で７月１１日（土）の１８時から行います。１０人の予約をしておきました。コースを食べますので、３、５００円をお払いください。現金は明日持ってきても良い、または当日持ってきても良いです。どちらでもOKです。質問のある方はご連絡ください。

7/1 Topic: Summer Activities

Hi everyone,

This week we will be talking about summer activities.  What do you look forward to in the summertime?  What kind of images come to mind when you think of summer?  What kind of summer events and festivals are in Urakawa/Hokkaido/Japan?

In New Zealand, the seasons are different.  Summer is in December, January, and February, not June, July, and August.  How are New Zealand summers different from Japanese and American summers?  What holidays are celebrated?

Announcement: I have booked a restaurant called Sakazukiya for Saturday, July 11, at 6:00 P.M.  If you can come to our farewell party at that time, please tell me during class tomorrow night.  Hattie and I would like to do courses, so I will let you know about payment methods.  If you have any questions, feel free to ask me.

Also, the last class is next week, July 8.

ニュージーランドで季節は違います。夏は６月から８月までではなく、１２月から２月までです。ニュージーランドの夏と、日本とアメリカの夏はどう違いますか？夏にどの祝日が祝われていますか？

This week we will talk about the 5 W's: who, what, when, where, and why.  (We will also talk about "how.")  We will play a game related to the 5 W's.

What exactly is the "5 W's"?  Look at the example below.

Why do we have English conversation class?

Announcement: As you know, Hattie and I will be leaving Japan soon.  We would like to have a farewell dinner party on Saturday, July 11, at 6:00 P.M.  I will make a reservation for a restaurant this week, and let you know where we will be dining.  Please let me know if you can participate on the decided date.

6/17 Topic: Experience

Hi everyone,

This week's topic will be experience.  For example, have you ever been to another country?  Have you ever gone skydiving?  Have you ever eaten a cockroach?  We will use the "Have you ~ ?" grammar and ask interesting questions.  Let's learn about each other's unique experiences!

Announcement: Hattie and I will be leaving Japan in July/August, so we would like to have a farewell party with you guys before then!  We want to have dinner with everyone on either July 11 (Saturday) or July 12 (Sunday).  Please let us know which day is convenient for you.  We have not made a reservation yet, but we think Sakazukiya might be a nice restaurant.  I will talk more about the party in class on Wednesday.

6/10 Topic: Describing and Explaining

Good afternoon, everyone!

How are you today?  This week's topic is about how to describe and explain things in English.  How do you describe what you see in English?  Usually people use adjectives and adverbs.  They also use phrases such as "It has ~ " or "There are ~ ."

We will practice these expressions and play games.  For example, can you describe the differences in two similar pictures?  Or can you explain a specific word without saying it?

6/3 Topic: How to Use "Get"

Hello, everyone!

This week's topic is about how to use the word "get" in casual conversation.  Have you heard the word "get" before?  It has many meanings.  When you think of "get," you probably think of "obtain." But "get" doesn't just have this meaning; it also means "become," "arrive," and "receive."  It's a very important word, so please try to use "get" in conversation as much as possible!
